White Settlement Historical Museum Collection

Historical Note

The White Settlement Historical Museum was founded in 1991 as a museum dedicated to the history of White Settlement and the early settlers of the area west of Fort Worth. The museum includes a log cabin, artifacts, and archival materials that tell that history.

Many neighborhood newspapers were published over the years by Suburban Newspapers, Inc., based in White Settlement. The publisher stopped printing papers in 2020 to focus on digital distribution. Bo Underwood, owner of Suburban Newspapers, Inc., donated a large number of newspapers to the museum for preservation. Because of insufficient space for the amount of papers, the museum chose to maintain copies of the White Settlement Bomber News on site, as well as have them digitized, while other titles have been placed with organizations across Tarrant County, with the bulk of the papers donated to the Tarrant County Archives.

Scope and Contents

The White Settlement Historical Museum Collection consists entirely of local newspapers that focus on various municipalities and neighborhoods in Tarrant County, as well as some church and other types of newspapers. There are over 10,000 individual issues within the collection dating from 1933 to 2019 with the bulk of the collection from the 1950s through the 2000s.
